Reserved IP Address Ranges

CIDR (Classless Inter Domain Routing) is a method for allocating IP addresses for IP routing. According to IANA, certain address blocks are reserved (for various purposes). The following are reserved for Private-Use only.

  • 10.0.0.0/8
  • 172.16.0.0/12
  • 192.168.0.0/16

A lot of cloud providers use the first one as it can support up to 16,777,216 devices.
